I hope to
diffuse traditional Japanese music and cross-culture music
to people of all ages, all nationalities.
Yoko Kimura was first introduced to the Koto at the age of 10. Fascinated with its unique sound, she switched her studies from piano to koto, a decision which led her to one of the most important Japanese traditional music scenes.
By the time she graduated from the Tokyo University of the Arts and Music, the most prestigious art school in Japan, Yoko received the name “Reikano”, from Hiroko Nakanoshima VI; this confirmed her as a master on the Koto.
Yoko has also received the highest Japanese music education certification from the NHK School for Japanese Music Performance as a koto performer, and the JVC School for Contemporary Japanese music as a shamisen performer. She was also elected as a trainee by the Agency of Culture Affairs.
Yoko received the first prize at the Great Wall International Music Competition in 2002, and has won numerous competitions, including the ken Jun Memorial National Koto Competition. She has also received numerous awards, among them the Osaka Chinese Counsel Award.
Besides busy teaching and performing schedule in Japan, she has performed thought the world, including Poland, Switzerland, France, the USA, Lithuania, Korea, China, and Israel.
She is currently taking part in wide range activities including recording traditional and contemporary music and variegated collaborations |
